BackForwardClose

Designed in three parts, this house has a two-story living pavilion hinged between a public pavilion on the north and a shaded private pavilion along a ravine to the south. A steel structure establishes a grid for non-structural infill walls. Large suspended, rolling panels open and close to alternately create spacious entertaining spaces and an intimate scale for the couple and their two young sons. A dialogue between steel frame, copper panels, stained stucco, and glass occurs throughout the house.
