Tucked among the sprawling trees, the house becomes part of the landscape.  A series of pavilions connected by screened sleeping porches form a lush and exuberant courtyard filled with flowering plants.  At the center of the courtyard, a long, narrow pool serves as an acequia (irrigation canal) to water the garden with the rain collected off the roofs.  The buildings open to unobstructed southeasterly breezes, while a long masonry north wall completes the compound and shields the compound and its gardens from winter winds.
