Lake|Flato Architects created a master plan to transform a 26-acre abandoned brewery site into a vibrant mixed-use development on the San Antonio River just north of downtown. The first facility to open was the brewery’s 1939 garage, which now houses the Aveda Institute and the Texas Farm to Table café. The Center for the Foods of the Americas, a culinary school developed in consultation with the Culinary Institute of America, utilizes one of the brewery’s large sheds. Both renovations expressed the buildings’ industrial history, by reusing beer storage tanks and replacing old garage doors with large, metal-framed windows.
