San Antonio Children’s DoSeum
The San Antonio Children’s DoSeum relocated to a new campus that supports their vision of being a premier educational resource that develops young thinkers capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st century. The new 68,000 square foot museum is comprised of a series of three, two-story exhibit halls. Between each exhibit hall are glass, daylit-filled transitional spaces that connect visitors to the outdoor exhibit yards. Adjacent to Brackenridge Park, it is set in a park where the landscape surrounds the building with meandering pathways that offer a sense of surprise, beautiful gardens that engage the senses, and shady places for families to relax and school groups to unwind.

The expression of Lake Flato's work is demonstrated by an extraordinary building that will serve our mission for decades. It is awe-inspiring for kids and adults alike and epitomizes excellence in sustainable architectureElizabeth Hurd
Former Director of the San Antonio DoSeum
The DoSeum transformed a former car dealership site into a world-class cultural education center for children and families. The DoSeum features 26,000 sq. ft. of indoor active learning space and 39,000 sq. ftof outdoor play space. Three modular warehouse structures provide a flexible learning environment for museum programs and maker spaces, engaging students in science, technology, engineering, math, literacy, and the arts. With nearly two-thirds of its footprint outside, the DoSeum maximizes outdoor learning space through interactive elements such as a Water Works lab, the Children’s River, and a 26-foot-tall Big Climb playscape fostering exploration.
Mindful of sustainability and longevity, the DoSeum features colorful, locally manufactured, durable materials that will withstand visitor wear and tear. 750 solar rooftop panels produce 25% of the facility’s energy while educating visitors. A water reclamation system conserves water by captures 180,000 gallons of water annually from the HVAC system. Stormwater runoff from the street is filtered in two natural bioswales at the DoSeum before flowing back into the San Antonio River.
