Partner, Founder
David Lake is an accomplished AIA Gold Medal recipient who merges regional vernacular with environmental efficiencies to create site-sensitive, distinctive architecture. Since David co-founded Lake Flato in 1984, he has earned a national reputation for creating designs that draw on cultural and architectural traditions that adapt to the effects of climate and fit gently into the landscape. David was influential in Austin’s expansion of Shoal Creek’s linear hike and bike trail to Lady Bird Lake in the 1970s and continues to inform the city he loves. With a continued passion for urban transformation, David leads Lake Flato’s Austin urban design studio, leading with his belief that architecture springs from its place and that historic preservation should be met with innovative technologies. In his work, the form fits contextually into its site and reconnects users to the surrounding environment and landscape.
