John Taylor – known to many as JT – is deeply committed to responsible stewardship of the natural environment. As one of Lake Flato’s Certified Passive House Consultants, he brings a wealth of technical expertise in high-performance design strategies to every project, including the firm’s first certified Passive House project in northern Illinois. Outside of his work in Lake Flato’s Eco-Conservation Studio, JT is dedicated to international humanitarian aid and development, frequently volunteering as an architect to design buildings for remote, underserved communities and NGOs around the world.
A proud native of the Deep South, JT earned his Bachelor of Architecture from Mississippi State University and previously worked with architecture and design/build firms in Mississippi and Maine. He enjoys working remotely from his home state of Mississippi in a sinker-cypress clad office full of oddities, including numerous fossils, artifacts, and a saltwater reef aquarium. In his free time, JT enjoys re-wilding his backyard, teaching his children about the Mississippi woodlands, and traveling with his family, always keen to experience new cultures and landscapes.
