Ryan’s childhood surrounded by the wild beauty of the Pacific Northwest deeply influenced his approach to design. His passion for place-based structures with an emphasis on the natural environment has fueled a desire to connect architecture more profoundly to the world around it. As a leader within the firm’s Higher Education studio, he leverages his aptitude for finding elegant solutions to complex problems on some of the firm’s most aspirational projects, including STEM lab buildings, student centers, student housing and learning facilities for Cornell University, Georgia Tech, the University of Denver and the University of Texas at Austin. Ryan is recognized for his expertise in Mass Timber and low embodied carbon buildings, spearheads Lake Flato’s annual nonprofit and pro bono efforts, and actively contributes to the firm’s Research + Design Committee. Prior to joining Lake Flato, Ryan was a recipient of the prestigious Rotch Scholarship, where he studied threatened forms of cultural heritage in Asia.
