Clyde Companies
In celebration of their 100th anniversary, Clyde Companies chose to return their headquarters to Springville, Utah, where their company was founded in 1926. The 8-acre site is currently used as a service and maintenance yard for large-scale equipment and is located adjacent to the watershed of Utah Lake. The brownfield site is being revitalized as an engineered landscape, with a focus on enhancing water quality and promoting ecological diversity. The yard occupies the southwest corner of a primary intersection that serves as a gateway to the town of Springville, making the new Headquarters project an iconic threshold welcoming visitors to the community.
The workplace design emphasizes long-term adaptability to support evolving needs and growth. Open office areas are organized into clusters of 15–20 staff, fostering community while addressing acoustic comfort. Closed offices are oriented perpendicular to the exterior façade to share access to daylight and views, resulting in 98% of regularly occupied spaces receiving natural light and exterior views.
North and south elevations are highly transparent to maximize desirable daylight, while east and west façades use a reduced window-to-wall ratio to control low-angle sun and frame views of the surrounding landscape.
Mass Timber construction was used to reflect the values of Clyde Companies, which are focused on innovation and continuous improvement. As a construction supply company, showcasing material innovation and the process of construction defined the ‘elevated industrial’ identity of the architecture.
