Remembering Callie Vickers

A few months ago, we featured the 1984 Vickers Residence as part of our Thirty Projects x Thirty Years series. It is with sadness and much grief that we mourn the recent loss of this client, Callie Vickers, who passed away in Palm Desert California last week. We reflect on our sweet memories of Callie, our very first client, as a generous, kind, thoughtful, creative soul who passionately supported and endorsed our firm and our mission. Vickridge was completed in Castle Pines, Colorado in 1986. Thanks to the Vickers’ support, our firm designed three homes at the Vintage Club in Palm Desert (Livingston, Conner, Fitzgerald) in the late 1980’s when there was not much work to be found in Texas . . . and again with the Bartlit Residence in Castle Pines in 2001. Both Callie and Jack thoroughly enjoyed the design and construction process. Jack would take charge of the exterior while Callie directed the interiors. The vitality of their creative individual strengths yet openly collaborative spirits yielded a smooth six year journey toward building their home. Callie was truly a fine person. Her warmth and excitement made Vickridge a home for her family and friends, and a lively destination for the community. All of us will miss Callie’s transcendent smile and warm presence. As we send our thoughts to Jack and his family, our Lake|Flato family remembers and celebrates Callie for the inspiration she brought to our office and our projects.
